PLAY AT WELLINGTON. NEW SOUTH WALES LADIES WIN EASILY. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON. January 14. 1 lie Now South Wales ladies were again superior to the Now Zealanders in the second day's play on the Thorndon courts. The matches were played in a high wind, of which, once they were accustomed to it, the Australians look full advantage. The outstanding match was provided by the meeting of Miss Lance and Miss MacFnrlanc, the first ladies in each team. Miss Lapce did not start well, and Miss MacFarlano's hard hitting tactics forced her into repeated errors. The New Zealand lady took tho first set for the loss of 21 points, scoring 32 points, and led S—2 and match in'the second. Miss MacFarlane had urn match point repeatedly, bui Miss Lance was seen at her best, and took the game after six deuces. They wore oven at live all. then Miss Lance, by chopping and driving, won (he sot 7 5, taking the third set easily. Miss Howe was off colour in her game against Miss Lloyd, who forced her opponent iiltb errors by the pace of her returns and won easily. Airs Hodges lacked initiative against Miss Gray, and paid the penalty of failure to attack by going down in straight sets, though her ooponent was erratic. Mrs Lascelles retired after winning her first set from Mrs Seott-Watscn without great; difficulty. New , Zealand gained the match by default —their only win.

In the doubles Miss Howe ami Mrs ScoltWatsnn seemed to have a chance when they took the first set B—ft from Misses Gray and Lloyd, hut the Australian pair settled down, and though they repeatedly lost cn their service they were too powerful off (he ground and elever at the net for (heir opponents. Miss Lance and Mrs Lascelles won from Miss MacFarlane and Mrs Hodges, mainly on Miss MncFarlanc's mistakes, without difficulty. Results ;
