GAS POISONING
LEAKAGE IN A MAIN. FORTY PERSONS AFFECTED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, December 29. Forty persons were affected by gas poisoning at Bethnal Green, due to a leakage in the main in a small street, half the houses in which were filled by the escaping gas. A family of three were found dead in a house, which was not connected with the main.—A. and N.Z. Cable. THREE PERSONS DEAD. SEVEN REMOVED TO HOSPITAL. LONDON, December 29. Three persons are dead and seven have been removed to hospital as the result of pas poisoning at Bethnal Green this morning. Thirty others are slightly affected. There has been a leakage of gas in the street for a few days. A Gas Company official investigated the matter and found that the leakage was serious, and he began to arouse the neighbourhood. A man and his wife and hoy were found unconscious in bed, and died despite artificial respiration. Seven others—two old women, a man, his wife and three children —were rescued in neighbouring houses, and are making favourable progress to wards recovery.—Reuter.
