OTAGO RUGBY UNION. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Rugbv Football Union was held last, evening. The president (Mr V. G Cavanagh) occupied the chair. The following applications for transfers were noted: —L. Stewart, from Dunedin to Zingari-Richmond; George Harris, from Dunedin, to Southern; W. M. Bain, from Southern to Zingari-Richmond. The secretary of-the New Zealand Rugby Union wrote stating that in his report of the tonr of the New Zealand team the manager (Mr Dean) made the following recommendation;—“l am not favourably inclined to the nresent day wing forward, and I am of tho opinion that he should he abolished from tho game altogether, and that we in New Zealand should fall into line witli all the other Rugby playing countries of,, the world, and adopt the three-two-three scrummage. I am confident that better and brighter football would result, and it would also tend to eliminate playirA the ‘man’ instead of playing the ‘ball.’”? The union was asked to take the matter into consideration with a view of discussing same at the annual general meeting.—The letter was received. —Tho chairman did not think it necessary for the union to express an opinion at the present time, as the matter would be brought up at the annual meeting of delegates. Sinclair, _ secretary of the Otago University Club, in acknowledging receipt of the union’s letter embodying the resolution passed by tho union regardintr the match Otago University v. Otago, wrote as follows:—“It is obviously not in the province of the University team to bring specific charges against players. This is a matter for the referee and for union officials. It is regrettable that none of the union officials were in a position to see whether tho game was .played in the right manner or not. Having achieved its object, in drawing the attention of the Otago Rugby Football Union to tho fact that rough plav does exist, and that it will not be tolerated, at least by the University Club, the University team will not push the matter any further.”—The committee was of the opinion that the matter had been fully ventilated at a previous meeting, and a motion that the letter be received was carried. , Several accounts were passed for payment. This being nraelieally tho final meeting of tho committee for tho year, a recess committee, consisting of the_ chairman, and chairmen of tho Flag Committee and Works Committee, was appointed to act during the off season.
