Hector Maclean (vice-president) was in the chair ELECTION OF PRESIDENT. When nominations were called lor the position of president, Dr Harrison proposed the Kov. Hector Maclean. He said that Air Maclean had taken a keen interest in the affairs of returned men since his return to Now Zealand. He hafl been president of the Invercargill R.S.A., and, in coming to Dunedin, bad been elected to the f executive of the Dunedin Association. The speaker had been president at the time, and he knew that as a member of the executive Mr Maclean had displayed the greatest insight into and knowledge of the auairs of the association, not only in this district, but in the whole of the dominion. And Mr Maclean never spoke simply for the sake of speaking. He always had something to say worth listening to, and > everyone listened to what he had to impart. The speaker declared that he could not think of any member better fitted to fill the presidency. Mr ,T. B. Callan seconded the motion. He said that Mr Maclean was an excellent chairman, and he always was ready to give a fair hearing to all sides. The association would he very fortunate if it could get Mr, Maclean for the position. He did not know anyone they could expect to do better. The presidents who had gone before had set a stiff pace, and their place was no easy one to fill. Tlie nomination was the only one offered, and Mr Maclean was declared elected amidst warm applause. In returning thanks, he said that he would carry out the duties to the best of his abilitv. On the motion of Mr J. M'Crao, the name of Mr J. B. Callan was entered to be sent forward to the executive ns a nomination for the position of vice-president, vacated by the new president. Mr J. Hansen was nominated to fill the resultant vacancy on the executive. QUARTERLY REPORT. The executive’s report staled, inter alia: During the period‘l6 active and six honorary members have been admitted to membership, : 14 members have been received on transfer, and 10 members have been transferred outwards. The financial membership of the association at September 30 stood at 1413. THvo nurses have also been admitted to membership within the period. One death has been recorded, that of Rifleman A. Otto, to whose relatives the sympathy of the members has been extended. It has been found necessary to appoint a subscription collector, and members would be doing the association a service by affording tins gentleman every help in his work. We have pleasure in recording that this club secured its first billiards trophy through the instrumentality of Mr A. Lindsay in winning the inter-club’s amateur championship. The trophy, a handsome shield, has now been handed over to the club, and will remain in our possession for the ensuing 12 mouths.. The billiard tables are now being overhauled. Two' have been completely renovated, and/the third will be proceeded with as soon as the necessary material comes to hand. This will put the chib in possession of what is undoubtedly one of the finest fitted aip billiard rooms in the dominion, and one which should be patronised by members much more than it is at the present. The attention of all returned soldiers who manufacture on their own account is drawn to the fact that free space for exhibits has been allocated to returned soldiers at the forthcoming Industrial Exhibition in Christchurch. The Christchurch Association are very actively interesting themselves in the interests of returned soldiers who are unable to attend this exhibition personally, and have made arrangements to act on behalf oi> any exhibitors who wish to avail themselves of their services. Your executive has pleasure in announcing that a,s a result of representations made to the trustees of the Sargood’s Benitest, half the interest on this bequest will be paid to this association for a period of five years. The report was adopted without discussion.
