ANNIVERSARY SOCIAL. A largo gathering celebrated the fortyfifth anniversary of the Hope of Dunedin Tent, No. 20, on Saturday evening in Kroon’s Social Hall. A splendid programme was provided by members and friends, and a very enjoyable time was spent. District Chief Ruler Bro. R. Farrant occupied the chair, and gave a short and appealing address on “Rechabitism.” Provincial Chief Ruler Bro. A. T. MTndoe who, like Bro. Farrant, is also it member of the Tent, was present also. Bro. MTndoe addressed the assembly, and urged all present to take an active part in the forthcoming prohibition fight. The duty also devolved upon him of presenting a P.C.R.'s certificate to. Sis. G. Drysdale, who has rendered invaluable services during her term of office. Bro. A. H. Walkenshaw opened the programme by welcoming those present, and made a special appeal for new members. The following members and friends provided items:—Miss M. Powell (musical monologue), Mrs Richards (solo), Misses Todd (duet). Sis. Bcnfell (humorous recitation), Mr C. Scott (solo), Mr R. Butler (solo), Bro. A. y. Gain (piano solo), and Bro. L. V. Gain (humorous song). The accompaniments were played by Sister Pearl Crawford. The annual report presented by the secretary (Bro. A. V. Gain) showed that the Tent”is still making good headway in securing new members, and is on a very sound bn'sis financially. The membership 12 mouths ago was as follows:—Full benefit, 147; 'half benefit, 96; honorary, 16;—total, 259. It now stands at: Full benefit, 154; half benefit, 96; honorary, 16; —total, 271. Twenty-three members were initiated during Iho year. 12 resigned or received clearances to other Tents, leaving a net increase of 12 members. The sick fund in 1921 stood at a credit of £5350. It now shows a credit of over £6600. 'Hie management fund at present is at £3lo—an increase of £2O. The total sum of £SBOO is invested at interest averaging 6 per cent. The Tent holds the progress banner, and it also won the initiation ceremony competition.
At the conclusion of the programme a hearty vote of thanks was passed to all the performers. Several brothers and sisters, under the supervision of Sis. Drysdale, then handed round refreshments, after which the floor was cleared and dancing was indulged in. Bros. R. Dcig and O. Wnlkinshaw acted as M.C.'s. and Air (i. Mitchell proved a capable musician.
