ALEXANDRA NOTES
(From Oun Own Correspondent.) ALEXANDRA. September 29. The weather is beautiful, in fact, too gooU-'-bright, warm sunshine day after day. when ram is very much required. The soil is very dry and irrigation, where water is available, has already been started in many gardens. With the high country devoid of snow, and the rivers and creeks running low, the outlook is not too promising. The mild warm days prevailing have suited the lambing, which is going to be a particularly good one, with a high percentage of lambs. The absence of ram and cold winds lias made the mortality very low. On some neighbo tiring runs the lambing is just making a. start. Sheep farmers are likely (o experience a record season of wool, ns thp regular weather throughout the winter, (he absence of sudden changes, is likely to mean line, unbroken fleece and plenty of it, the flock being in good condition, generally speaking. Local orchard lands are a picture at present, clothed in blossom of varying colours, a sight worth seeing. Dwellers in the city having the time would be well pleased and considerably benefited with a four of Central Otago under prevailing conditions of weather and scenery. Air U, Carson, of Dunedin, was the successful applicant out of 30 applications for the position of borough reserve and howling green caretaker. It, is the intention of the borough, with (lie co-operation of the local snorts bodies, to undertake extensive improvements in the local recreation reserve. These improvements will improve the surroundings, and give shade and shelter in (he summer to visitors and holidaymakers, of whom an increasing number come every season to Central Olago. Considerable interest is being displayed in the queen carnival effort being made on behalf of the local" brass band and volunteer lire brigade. The supporters of (he three queens are working hard in tiro respective interests, with tho one object, in view of assisting_ these two worthy institutions. Tire'carnival effort will extend over three days, starting on Labour Day. It is hoped to raise £250.
