DUNEDIN’ STOCK EXCHANGE The share market was fairly animated at » the beginning of the week, but toward* tno close business slackened, and prices suffered in some case®. Banking and insurance stocks, though prices were for the most part steady, were not dealt in extensively. Standard litsurano© liad two reported sales at 83s, and finished with a seller at that price, the beat buying offer being 31s. Bank of New Zealand bad reported sales at 52s 9d and 53s Gd, and closed steady, with only a. threepenny margin. There were reported sales of National Bank -at £5 18s 6d and £5 18s 9d, and the market closed with a buyer at £5 18s 3d, and no seller. South Otago Breezing opened the week with a sale at 87s, and closed with a buyer at 85s and no declared seller. Huddart, Parker sold on Monday at 46s 9d. and yesterday a buyer offered 47s in a market bare of sellers. "Westport Coal were quitted at 30s 9d, and ( finished with a buyer at 80s 6d and a seller at 31s 3d. KaLapoi Woollen (con.) had transactions at 13s 9d, and yesterday there. was a seller at 13s, but no declared buyer.' New Zealand Refrigerating (con.) were quitted at 12s 8d on Wednesday, bat yesterday the beet buying offer was 12s, am a seller was willing to accept 12s' 4d. D.LC. (pref.) had a sale at 20s, and yesterday a buyer offered 19s lOd, the seller asking 20s 3d. There wore three reported sales of Union Steam Ship Company (pref.) at 19s 7d, and at the close there was a buyer at 13s 6d, and no declared seller. A pareel of Dominion Rubber changed hands at 7s yesterday, after which the best buying offer was Gs and there was a seller at 7s Bd. Waihi sold at 29s 6d and 295, and yesterday the best buying offer was 28s* a seller quoting wide. The only transaction in Government bonds for the week was in 4J per cents. (1938), at £95.
