CHINAMEN BEFORE THE COURT. (Pkx Durm Patsa Assooiatiov.) AUCKLAND, August 4, Wong Doo, a Chinese, was fined £SO on a charge of permitting hi* premises to bo used as & common gaming houso. Security for appeal was fixed at. £ls, phia the fine and costs (£4 12s fid). Oases against 21 others we/e adjourned pending the appeal, Wong’ Sun teiag charged with keeping the house, twq others with assisting, and the rest with being found on the premises. The-'defence in Wong Doo’s 'case was that the games were Hot games of chance 1 any more than whist, euchre, or any game of cards, also that v the game described by the police was not played on the day of the raid (July 16)'.
