OBITUARY.
There passed awav at 18c Leith street on Tuesday, August 9, at tho advanced an-o of 93i a very old colonist, Airs R. Meredith. She arrived in Wellington with her husband in 1850. and came to Dunedin in 1864, and had resided in this city over since. She was of a very loving disposition, and many families in tho city arid country districts will long remember her hospitality and active interest in their welfare. She was one of the members who formed the Hanover Street Baptist Church. Old residents will remember the meetings in tho old courthouse. She is survived by one son and seven grand children and one great grand child. Her husband predeceased her 29 years ago.
A council of parents in every town in England, whoso one object would bo the welfare of the people, is the desire of Mrs Knight-Bruce, widow of the late Bishop Knight,-Bruce. Such a council, said Mrs Knight-Bruce, speaking at Exeter, should be composed of mothers, fathers, men, and maidens, who would see to the provision of, besides good housing, proper nlay spaces for children, and beautiful buildings for music and dancing, where courting by young couples could also be carried on in open and lovely circumstance*.
