'JLheso include “The Mikado,” "ieomen of the Guard,” “lolanthe,” “The Gondoliers,” “II.M.'S. Pinafore,” “Tlie Pirates of Penzance,” and ’‘Trial by Jury, ' 'The recent revivals in Australia of Gilbert and Sullivan’s popular operas have met with the success forecasted for them. Well-mounted and interpreted by an exceptionally brilliant cast, they nave proved to be the moat acceptable of musical attractions. VV. S. Gilbert so v deftly handled his material as to leave scarcely a delect. * His humour, whether satirical or broadly comic in its nature, is genuinely amusing and can be enjoyed by the _ less discriminating playgoer equally witu the most ardent student of the stage. A more delightful entertainment of itsikind, combined with the unarm of the music, could hardly be conceived. The Gilbert and Sullivan productions have maintained a high standard of excellence, and they are appreciated to-day almost as much as they were when the famous partnership first gavo them to an admiring public. The season will commence at His Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday night next at 8 o’clock with “The Gondoliers,” which will be 'presented Saturday and Monday next. This opera* will be followed for one night each by the operas above mentioned. There will bo a matinee performance on Wednesday week of “The Yeomen of the Guard,” and another on Saturday week of “H.M.S. Pinafore” and “Trial by Jury.” There is little doubt that the coming of this famous comic opera organisation is being regarded as an Extraordinary musical occasion. It is said authoritatively that the company which will interpret the operas in this case is easily the best Gilbert and Sullivan exponents that have played these immortal works in a decade. Heavy advance booking is anticipated at the Bristol on Thursday.
