A large attendance enjoyed a most' sue- , cessful sacred concert in the Macandrew Bay Hall on Good Friday night, the pro- ,■ oeeds being in aid of the erection of the proposed Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Mr -M'Donald, who occupied tho chair, explained the position with respect to the church, stating that there was over ±!500 in sight at the present time, and collecting had not actually commenced yet. An exceptionally good programme of solos, duets, recitations, and other items was rendered, much appreciation being manifested. Those who performed were Misses Baker, Eager, Foster, and Robsrteon, and Messrs Eager, Maitland, Hutton, and Watts\ Special mention must ba mad© of the artistic rendering of "He Was Despised" by Miss Eager. This young lady possesses a charming voice, and used it to the best possible advantage on this occasion. A unique series of lantern slides appropriate <to Eastertide was displayed by Mr Simpson. Tho performers and Mr Simpson were accorded votes of thanks, particularly hearty being the one to Mr Hutton, who was responsible for the organisation of the con- . cert. \ Special Easter services wore hold by tho Wesleyan and Presbyterian congregations, at which there were largo attendances. Tho •Rev. Mir McDonald spoke interestingly to the juniors on the Easter time, and impressively to the adults on "If Christ Had Not Risen/' Anthems were rendered by the choir, and solos by Miss Dove and MrV An enjoyable social gathering took place at Clinton on Saturday evening .in honour of Mr Walter Fuller, who, for close on five years, has been station clerk at Clin ion.About 50 gentlemen assembled to tender a farewell to Mr Fuller on the occasion of his departure to Hampden, he having been • promoted to tho position of stationmaster there. Mr D. A. M'Lachlan was voted.to the chair. Alter explaining the object oEthe meeting, the chairman spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr Fuller as _ a'. painstaking, courteous, and obliging officer. ,He voiced tho general fo-, gret of the town and district at the de-] : ; parture of Mr and Mrs Fuller, who have on' many occasions ably and ungrudgingly . assisted at functions and gatherings having ,„ for their object the welfare of the district and the community. Numerous toasts were honoured and a number of musical and elocutionary items given, gave a well-chosen selection on the bagpipes, which was much appreciated'.'. Tho ; . chairman, on behalf of tho > town, and dis- ' trict, presented Mr Fuller with a purse and contents. Mr Curran, the newly-appointed stationmaster at Clinton, on behalf of tho _ , railway employees, in well-chosen-»'word*,* ~ ,\ also presented Mr Fuller with a tangible token of esteem, to which _ the latter suitably responded. The evening was brought' to a close by the singing of "For ho ia'a jolly pood fellow " and " Auld lang syno." Later Mrs Fuller also came in for her "share of good farewell wishes in that, aa a recognition of her distinguished services, the was - the recipient of a tangible token of goodwill from St. Peter's choir.
