Tho Southland Racing Club's meeting opened in Quo but dull weather, which turned cold towards tho latter part of tho afternoon. The attendance appeared to be a record for tho courso. The trade was in good order and fairly fast. Mr W. Norman was not very successful at tho barrier, and did not act up to his statement in regard to his intended treatment of fractious horses. Two well-backed chances in Radial and Miehaola got badly away in the Flying Handicap, which Radial would have won if a good start had been effected. Miohaola was in a bad position right through tho race. Amytlias won tho Invercargill Cup very comfortably, and his presence in tho field at tho weights scared out most of tho opposition. During tho day tho totalisator registered £29,286, or £6292 10s more than last year. Results: —

There. -was a splendid display of clean, scientific boxing, .which lasted the full 15 rounds. A verdict was given for Urcn by the referee (Mr Tracey) on a narrow margin of two points.
