Mr Justice Hoe king is on a visit to Duncdiu at the present time. Mr A. Quelch (Mayor of Mcsgiel) presided, and there were also present on the platform the Rev. D. Cakler, Mr Walsh, and Mr Scott, nil of whom_ made appropriate speeches. -Mr J. M. Dickeon, M.P., Sir Cecii Moon, and Major Fleming sent their congratulations to Scout Scott. Tho Mayor,, after making the presentation, mentioned that Mr Walsh's parents, who rosido in Hawicli, Scotland , , had recognised Scout Scott's brave act 'by sending him a gold medal. Sergeant S. Fricklcton V.C., of tho Rifle Brigade and Sergeant L. W. Andrew V.C., of the Wellington Regiment, have- 'both (our London correspondent reports) been recommended by General Godlcy for comnuspions in the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces. Lieutenant 11. J. F. Mills, King's Royal Rifles, son of Sir James Mills, who was captured by the Germans in the affair beyond tho canal at Niottport in July ,is interned at Freiburg and is in good health. Lieutenant Mills had boen Acting Captain eineo March of this year, and was gazetted as such early in November.

Major R *A. Belcher, formerly head master of Christ's College, Christchurch. has been appointed Director of Vegetable. Supplies, including potatoes, under the Food Ministry. Major Belcher was previously in ohargo of Production under tho Army and Navy Canteen Board. The captain of H.M.S. New Zealand, appointed on the promotion of Captain Greene to Flag-rank, is Captain Richard Webb, C.8., who, sinco the beginning of the war has been director of tho Trade Division of the Admiralty War Staff, and also .associated with tho control of minesweoping. Dr William Fitzgerald, of Liverpool, has (our London correspondent writes) been appointed a Deputy Commissioner of Medical Services under the Ministry of National Service. Vv'. S. Fitzgerald (former rector of the Training College at Dunedin, and afterwards Inspector of Schools in Otago). Mr M. W. P. Lascellcs, hon. commissioner for the Now Zealand Y.M.C.A., has left England en route for Now Zealand. Our London correspondent, writing on November 13, states that his travels will take him through France, Egypt, and India. At a farewell dinner in London, Mr Lascellee was presented with a piece of plate by mWocrs of tho N.Z.Y.M.O.A. stafE in appreciation of his services in England. At the Shakespeare Hut there was a farewell gathering attended by a largo number of soldiers. After inspecting tho Y.M.C.A. centres in Egypt Mr Laseelles will give a swries of lectures in India, dealing with the YIM.C.A. work in England and France. Mr G. W. W. B. Hughes, supervising secretary for tho N.Z.Y.M.C.A., crossed to Franco from England with Mr Lascelles.
