A PATRIOTIC FAMILY
SPLENDID RECORD OF SERVICE.
A splendid record of war service has been established _ by the Withey family, which formerly lived at P'almerston, but is now living in Wellington. Writing to the Wellington Post, Mrs N. Withey states:—"l have seven sons, four fighting for and country, one returned, one guard on Somes Island, and one rejected as medically unfit Private W. Withey (returned) left with the Mam Body and was wounded whilst engaged in the Suez Canal fight. He spent several months in the Cairo Hospital, was invalided to New Zealand, and is now in the Army Service Corps at Wellington. Private George Withey left New Zealand with the Sixth Reinforcements, was at Gallipoli for several months, took part in the evacuation, went to France, was engaged in the battles of Somme and Messines, and has just been reported wounded. Corporal John Withey left New Zealand with the Seventh Reinforcements. He also took part in the battles of the Somme and Messines, was in hospital in England for several months, and has now returned to the front. Private Charles Withey "left New Zealand with the Twenty-seoond Reinforcements, and Private Harry Withey left New Zealand with tho Twenty-third Reinforcements, tho latter leaving a wife and five children. Private Leonard Withey (aged 17) has been doing garrison duty at Somes Island since the commencement of the war Tom Withey, after enlisting several times and being turned down as medically unfit, was then drawn in the ballot, and finally rejected by a medical board."
