WELLINGTON, August 2<k lho cases of several Marist Brothers were considered by tho Military Service Board, and a decision has been postponed until further information has been received from the Education Department relative to the' position in State and Catholic schools. The appeal of J*. J. Riordan, theological student, Napier, was dismissed, but the board will recommend appellant far servioe in tho Medical Corps. ARRIVAL OF RETTJRKED SOLDIERS. Hie oversea steamer which brought back a number of returned soldiers from England is not due at Port Chalmers with the Otago -and Southland quota until early on Monday, morning. There are nine' cot cases for Dunedin, as follows:—Lieutenant W. S. Clancy, Lance-corporal W. F. Kerr, Privates A. Brown, C. A. Collier, F. R. Darling, J. A. Ilanan, D. Jones, A. T. Reid, and E. Sainsbury. Two to go to the Oamaru Hospital are Privates F. Martyn and W. M. Sutherland. Two others to bo forwarded to Irivercargfll are Lance-corporal Dickson and Private Couling. Major Fleming is in charge of these men, he having joined tho vessel at Auckland. It is understood ' that Lord Liverpool is ooming south by this vessel. MILITARY TRAINING SCHOOL. A School of Military Training is being commenced in Dunedin and country districts for men going into camp, and special attention is given _to men who aro anxious to obtain commissioned or non-commissioned rank. The syllabus of training will cover all that is gone through at Trenfham, being: modelled on the Home training'. Tho principal is a returned officer of the Main Body, who has had considerable experience in both territorial and other service, while a staff of ex-sergeant-majors has been secured. . A system of grading has been arranged so that men who have had no military training will bo pushed ahead. GOING TO THE FRONT. On Thursday evening a lorpjo numbor of Cavorsham boys and their friends met to bid farewell to Gunner L. Rendel, of the Thirtieth ■Reinforcements, who is down on final leave. Tho chairman (Mr P. OVERSEAS CLTJB. This, has been a particularly busy week, and plenty of. workers will be required next week .in order to cope with the extra rush of work. A large number of parcels have been brought to the' rooms, and this entails a large amount of work in packing. Donations of material and discarded clothing are still required for local charitable purposes, and money to procure soldiers' comforts is urgently needed. The committee anticipates help from town and country members who can donate flowers, which it is intended to sell on Friday during tho collecting. The flowers may bo left at the clubroom on Thursday afternoon. Donations havo been received from Me&darnes M'Coll, Sinclair, Hall, M'Nichol, Misses G. M'Crorie, Burns, Girls' High School, Milton. MOMONA RED CROSS SOCIETY.- ' The following goods have been sent to Dunedin Centre for the past fortnight:— 6 suits pyjamas, 3 shirts, 11 hospital shirts, 3 underflannels, 5 underpants, 29 l aa towels, /pairs bed socks, 5 pairs mittens, 15 scarves, 20 manytail bandages, 17 pairs socks. School chudren: 4 limb rests, 2 pairs socks, 1 pair cuffs, 1 scarf, 4 bags. Donations have been received from Mrs Gibson, Mrs M Hattio. The sum of £5 was donated ti? r xt for cakes and sweets for the New Zealand Hospitals and Convalescent Homes- in England. CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR SOLDIERS. . Tho women's branch of the Overseas Club intends to make its second appeal for comforts for our soldiers at the front on Friday. It is to be hoped that'the public will respond with its customary generosity. OTAGO WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION. ST. CLAIR BRANCH. . Tho month's wank resulted in tho following articles being forwarded to heodquarters ;—3O pairs socka, 14 balaclavas 4 children s nightgowns, 2 undershirts,' 30 shirts, 40 bousewifes, 9 face cloths, 84 handkerchiefs, 72 soap Ibagß, 240 tea towels, 18 cinnamon bags. Donations were received from tho following:—Mrs King Mefidamea Diok and Isaacs, Misses Hopcraft and Nixon. A special appeal has been received for a fixed number cf shirts monthly. Any ladies who can undertake th» work regularly at home win bo of great- assistance. Shirts ready cut will be supplied at the hall ST. KHDA WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION. The St Kilda Women's Patriotic Association held its weekly meeting on Thursday, and there wiis a good attendance of worker?" In response to an aopeal from Home for cakes and- sweets for Christmas for our wounded and siek in hospitals there the branch , inaugurated a special collection.
