(Pkb United Pijess Association.) ■•;■': AUCKLAND, February 19. A girl of nine years of age, Dorothy Bette, was drowned while bathing at Onohungia to-day. She got out of her depth and disappeared in sft of water.

An inquest into the death of Wirihana (26), the Native who was found dead in hk Ibed yesterday morning, resulted in a verdict of " Suicide while of unsound mind " being returned by Mr Outten (coroner). The evidonco showed that the deceased had cut his throat with a. razor as the result of domestic troubles. According to the sworn evidence of his wife, Wirihana was frequently overtaken with fits of jealousy, fie had been cruel to her on several occasions, she said, and had repeatedly told her that ho intended taking his own life. He had also threatened to buy cartridges for his revolver and then " maJco an end " of both of them. ~

A young man named John Currie met with a. somewhat painful accident on Tuesday afternoon (says the Bruce Herald). Ho was engaged working thesteering wheel rn Messrs Hamilton Bros.' faction engine, and ■whilst -passing through Salmond's Creek tho engino struck a large boulder. Currie momentarily lost control of the wheel, which flew bock, and tho handle struck him a severe blow in the abdomen, and lacerated the skin. He was conveyed into Muton, and was .attended to by Dr M'Oormick. No serious internal injuries are anticipated.
