DRAINAGE BOARD ELECTION

NEW MEMBER RETURNED,

A poll of the ratepayers of Dunodin City and St. Kilda was taken yesterday for the purpose of electing three members to tho Dunedin, Drainage and Sewerage Board. There wore three vacancies to be_ filled, caused bv the effluxion of the period for which Messrs Arklc, Small, and Hancock had been appointed. These three_ gentlemen offered themselves for re-election,. unci Messrs W. Belcher and J. Carroll also offered themselves as members. As will be seen by tho votes recorded, not much interest was taken in the election, as approximately some 30,000 ratepayers were oligiblo to record their votes. Mr Hancock was the only old member to loso his seat. After the returning officer (Mr Esther) had declared from the steps of flic Garrison Hall that Messrs Small, Belcher, and Arkln had been duly elected, tho two former gentlemen briefly addressed the very small number of people present, and returned thanks for their election.
