(Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, December 23. Albert Ernest Ede committed suicide by cutting his throat at Avondale this morning. Ho had become reconciled to his wifo yesterday after three months' separation duo to his drinking habits.' The evidence showed that he had a fear of going insane. Hi 6 mother died in an asylum, and his brother is now in a mental hospital at Sydney. A verdiot of "Suicide while in- ' sane" wa6'returned. PALMERSTON N., December 23. ■ At an inquest to-day concerning the deatb of an old man, Felix Stratford, who' was killed by a train at one of the 6quare crossings, a verdict was returned of accidental death. The coroner expressed tho opinion that the speed of trains should be reduced to five mile 6 an hour through the town. Dr Martin, superintendent of the hospital, said he had now attended fivo railway fatalities at Palmerston. (From Our Own Correspondent.) 'WANGANUI, December 23. _ Frank Usmar, of Kimbolton, who accidentally took a drink of drench out of a bottle he thought contained beer, died at the Palmerston North Hospital to-day.
