St. Mabtin's v. University. University junior team had to default, but the seniors managed .to raise, a full team for their match with St. Martin' 6. The Blues took charge for the first few minutes, but St. Martin's broke away, and Thomas scored. Then F. Drake got a lightning sliot into the net. University came back again, and M'Clure scored, but thereafter Paul, on the St. Martin's left wing, scored three times in succession, his first being a brilliant shot. ■ In the closing 6tagcs of the. spell Ryburn, M'Clure, and Andreae each scored for Universitv, but at half time St. Martin's led by sto 4. Slater, though still playing only, four forwards, iwidc a more effective arrangement of trio University back division on changing ends, and play travelled rapidly from circle to circle. Paul got a soft shot into the University net, giving his side a lead of two, but the students could only reduce this by ono, Slater getting in a hot shot after a lot of clever work by Andreae. The student 6 gave •a very poor display, entirely without combination in the first 6pe!l, and though the issue was sometimes in doubt, St. Martin's decidedly deserved their win. Mr G. R. Ritchie controlled the game, which ended:

St Martin's 6 goals. University ' 5 goals. Union >v. Gymnastic. Tho ground was not favourable to good hockey. Union could place only ten men in the field, while Gymnastic had to draw on their B team to fill vacancies. Percy Footc drew first blood for Gymnastic, getting in a good shot from a penalty corner. Il was now Union's turn, and after a fast rush down the field, Bradshaw scored. The spell ended: Gymnastic, 2; Union, 1, Crawford scoring again just before half-time. Continuing, the Union backs were hard pressed by the opposing forwards, who hard luck on more than one occasion, several shots going just outside the posts. Bradshaw 6tored again for Union, the game resulting in a draw. Ono or two of the Union forwards iiavea good idea of combined play, and with practice should give a better account of themselves. Several of Gymnastic's regular players were absent, and tins, no doubt, contributed to the team' 3 poor showing. For Gymnastic Hogg, P. Foote, Crawford, and Edwards were prominent, while for Union J. Fraeer, Ahlfcld. and Turnbull deserve mention. Mr Orbell was an efficient referee. The final score was :— Gymnastic ...' 2 goals. Union 2 goals. Otago v. Y.M.C.A. This match, Otago v. Y.M.C.A., was played on one of the worst grounds at Forbury Park, the boggy surface rendering it nccessaiy for the ball to be " dug" out on several occasions. Otago were without the services of the veterans Calder and Fen•wick, and played one man short for the first 20 minutes, during which time Y.M.C.A. notched their first goal. Newton signalised his arrival and first appearance for the season by equalising the score 6 with a neat shot. Tho game was a very keen one from start- to finish, Otago eventually winning by one goal. For Y.M.C.A. the goal-hitters were Gillies, M'Lean, and Tvson. Wilson, at half-back, played a good game. For Otago Culleford, Newton, and Bfomficld (2) made successful shots, and Perkins played a sterling game. The final result Y/afi :— Otago 4 goals. Y.M.C.A. .'. 3 goals. Cm v. Gymnastic. Gymnastic were unfortunate against City in having only nine men. From the bully City made the pace. Penman's place was takrji by S. Wright during tho first spell, and after a few scrambles round the goal this player, after lifting one ovcr.ihe posts, succeeded in drawing first blood. From then onward a succession of goals followed, all the forwards being concerned in the scoring. For Gymnastic Whytc was easily the 'best in the forwards, and Mowbray at full-back played splendidly. Napier and louden, two of City's cofte, both played good games. Goals were scored by Fitt (6), Macan, Mills, M'Donald, Strang, Bremner, and Wright (ono each). Mr Wilkie was an efficient referee. Tho game ended: — City 12. Gymnastic 0. Hahdwabe v. Y.M.C.A. Hardware obtained an easy victory over Y.M.C.A. in a game that unfortunately had to be played without a referee.
