The Premier (M. Baithou) is of opinion that the construction of a Channel tunnel is mows probable, as former English objections are disappearing in view of the many probable advantagee.

A man, his wife, and three children were on an excursion in the Alps, when their carriage overturned near the edge of a precipice. They fell 200 ft, and all were killed excepting the wife, who wa6 caught by a tree.

In the House of Commons the Weekly Rest Day Bill has been introduced. Sunday employment is made unlawful, with' certain exemptions. The Bill prohibits the' sale of tobacco and newspapers for more than two hours—morning newspapers be-, foro 6, the sale of bread after 10 o'clock, milk after 10.30, and the use of bathing machines between 10 a.m' .and 3 p.m. Jews are exempted on condition that their shops are closed at nightfall on Friday and Saturday and provided their customers and assistants are Jews.
Priov to the departure of the touring legislators Sir J. S. Hajmood-Banner (Lord Mayor of Liverpool) requested them to ask the dominions to encourage commerce and to give England all the prefer-' ence they could.
