MR BEDDOE'S VIEWS. (Per United Peess Association.) AUCKLAND. March 22. Mr Beddoe, the Canadian Trade Commissioner, ivhen interviewed in reference to Sir William Lyne's cabled statement that if the reciprocity treaty between Canada and the United States were ratified by the Dominion Parliament Canada would bo annexed by the States in eight or ten years and'the British Empire begin : to disintegrate, said'thero was no such treaty, but merely an agreement, susceptible to revocation, by either Parliament. During 30 years' residence in Canada he had never heard' annexation ' discussed, and his impression was that there was nothing further from the aspira- '; tions of Canadians. They were democratic, loyal to Empire and King, whereas Ameri- '. cans were not in sympathy with mon- , archical government. In regard to the statement of Sir Wil« ,'•. liam Van Horias that four-fifths of tho : Canadian people were opposed to the reciprocity agreement, Mr Beddoe said that, whatever the people thought, it, was a fact that the two political parties .f, of Canada had advocated reciprocity without a doubt since the confederation.
