FIRES.

The Empire Hotel, which was destroyed by fire earlv this morning, was insured for 5750 and.the furniture for -8500. in the Atlas office. The office of J. H. Wilson, the Union Steam Ship Company's agent, -adjoining, was also gutted. It was insured, -Willi, the contents, for £215 in the South British. The Hank of New Zealand, opposite the Empire Hotel, was badly scorched and the windows broken, and'the Town scorched. The water supply now being brought in was utilised to splendid advantage, and certainly saved a more disastrous conflagration, as for" some time the Cafe do Paris Hotel and other neighbouring places stoodi in jeopardy till the water was got on. ' TIMARU, November 21, A seven-ronrned house and outbuildings at Temuka, the property of Sir M. fc'cannell, was completely- destroyed by lire this morning. Tho house had been unoccupied for some time.
