Replying to a domitation from the Farmere Union Conference, Sir Joseph -Ward said lie would lw glad to sco the union's ropresMtaticns in regard lo tho grouping of Native lands considered, The Native Land Commission's regulations, to fcc submit tod to Parliament thk session, dealt with two or three million acres of land, and if this could bo ikalt with in a satisfactory way they would havo done a good deal towards obtaining land for settlement. Ihe conference's suggestion in regard to tho ratable value of land was so complicated that he would like it put in writing. Ho held out no hope of concessions on timber rates, though tliey would he considered ill connection with the whole matter. Piio conJoreaice had not suggfsted- a solution of the problem in regard to conciliation and arbitration. What was required to he done was to improve a piccn of legislation which, upon the whole, had been valuable, and he did not think anything could be gained by tho hasty step of saying it was to be repealed.
