SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETINGS.

The first meeting of the newly-elscted committee of the Arthur Street School was held on I'ritlay evening; present—Messrs A. Sligo (in the chair), A. Struthers, A. Burt, J. Edgar. 0. Pinel, M. M'Kenzie, and J.Kemnilz. The following were elected officers for the year:—Chairman, Mr-J. Kemnitz; treasurer, Sir A. Sligo; secretary, Mr A. 'Struthers. It was resolved to meet on the second Monday m eacli month. Messrs J. Edlgar and J. Kemnitz were elected a Visiting Committee for the ensuing month. A meeting of tho Maori Hill School Committee was hold on Friday night, and was attended bv Messrs S. N. Brown, A. J. ButierfieM. P. L. Clark. 0. Balk, C. Grant, and C. Grater. Mr S. N. Brown was ireelected chairman ajid Mr C. Grater lion; secretary and treasurer. The Head Master reported that 217 children were present on Friday, the average for the month being 210. The chairman and Mr Balk were appointed a "Visiting Committee for May, and a subcommittee, consisting o[ Messrs Brown, Butterficld, and Grater, was appointed to act in having part of tho school ground asphalted. _ At the meeting of the committee of the Lawrenco District High School on Friday evening Mr J. C. Arbuckle was elected chairman, and Mr G. Jeff cry was re-elected clerk. A very complimentary vote was recorded on tho minutes regarding the n!>!o manner in which the retiring chairman (Mr J. Norrie) had filled the office during the past two veairs. and had lie not expressed a wish that the offico should be a rolling one ho would doubtless have been re-elected.
