CAE GILL ROAD METHODIST CHURCH.

Harvest thanksgiving services were hold in the Cargili Road Methodist Church yesterday, the church being nicely decorated with corn, fruit, and flowers in honour of the occasion. There was a large congregation at the morning service, when tho llcv. •W. Grigg based his sermon upon (ho words, "Give us this day our daily bread." In the course of hie remarks, tho prcaclier slated that bread was tlio symbol, of the solo need of mail's complex being— body, soul, and spirit. The Rev. Mr Grigg also conducted the service in the evening, when he took as his text, "Sowing and reaping," illustrating his subject, by showing that sowing a thought meant reaping an actj sowing an act reaping a habit, sowing a habit reaping a character, and sowing a character reaping a destiny. The hymns which were sung oil the previous Sunday, when .anniversary services -were held, were repeated by the choir, teachers, and children.

KEW PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHUROH.

There were large congregations at tho Kew Primitive Methodist. Church yesterday, when the services took tho form of harvest thanksgiving. The morning service was conducted by the ltev. 8. Bailey, who chase as his text the.words, "Give us this uay our daily bread." In tho evening the preacher was tho Rev. CY A. Sims, who chose as his subject John iv, 35-38: "Say not ye, there arc yet four months, anil then comcth the harvest? Behold, I E ay unto _you; lift up your eyes and look on the fields for tliey are white already to harvest." The speaker dwelt on ' the material harvest enjoyed in tho colony, and urged all to make ready for the gathcrin"111 of the eternal harvest. The church was beautifully decorated with flowers, fruits, etc., winch had been given bv members and mends.

HANOVER. STREET BAPTIST CHURCH.

The Rev W. Lamb continued his mission at Hanover Street Baptist Church yesterday, preaching morning and evening and addressing a meeting of men in the < afternoon. There was a congrcgation in the morning, and in'the evening (he church was very full. At (ho morning service Mr Lamb preached from Psalm LXIII, 1; "0 God, Thou art mv God early will I seek Thee; my eoiil tnirsteth for I'lieo." "God has provided," said tho preacher, "everything needful for the .sustenance and comfort of the body, but (ho things which satisfy (he body cannot satisfy the soul of men. The soul needs God, and God is over seeking to satisfy man's _ deepest aspirations. . Tho foul's union with God leads to perfect"rest and satisfaction."

There was a good gathering of men in the church in ilie afternoon, when tho miwionei; spoke ' from Psalm VIII, 4-5: " What is man that Thou art mindful of him ?" etc.

In the evening Mr Lamb preached from Luke vii, 14: "Young man, I say unto thee, arise." The city of Nain. where the widow's son was raised to life, was lifted out of obscurity, through its asociation with 'Christ, and became invested with noble and beautiful memories. In a similar 'way life was always exalted through contact with Christ. The conditions of. life and death in Nain repeated themselves through tho centuries, and just as Christ called tho young man of that day to life, so to-day called men to eternal life. The uacertainty of life in this world and the reality of death and otc-rnity, tho missioner urged- as reasons for immediate response to the call of Christ. Tho Rev. W: Hay took the first, part of each service. and presided at tho men's meeting in the afternoon. Mr Arthur Cooke and Mr .Shrimpton sang solos. The mission will be continued till Wednesday night.
