THE ELINGAMITE'S GOLD.
AUCKLAND, January 11. After two or three unsuccessful attempts & party of treasure-seekers has succeeded in securing some of tho gold that went down in tho ill-fated Elingamite, which was wrecked off the Three Kings. To-day Captain Willis, who is in charge of a. piiriy of searchers on tho steamer Huia, reported to Messrs Campbell, Ehrcnfricd, and Company, agents for Lloyd's, that £1500 of the gold, which totals upwards of £18.000, had ken recovered; bv them, and .that, they had put. baok to Mongonui to refit. Captain Willis is confident that, when .tlio Bcarch is resumed riioro of tho treasure will be 10covered if the weather is suitable. . '•

Later details of the recovery of the Eiiugamito's treasure show that about £1700 has so far been obtained, and tho diver (Harder) expects to recover the greater part, which amounts in ail to over £17,000. Ho is of opinion that tho treasure was never previously located, and eays he intends taking down a. heavy hammer to break up heaps o! coiii3, and spoons, forke, etc., bearing tho Huddart-Farkcr brand.
The search parly, according to the agreement with tho underwriters, (ire to receive 80 j.er cent, of tho value recovered, of which 15 per cent, goes to the diver. The diver, in tho present case, is Ivlr Harris, of Little Omaha, and lately employed by tho Wellington Harbour Board. ■ ANOTHER'£BOO RECOVERED. DEATH OF THE DIVER. AUCKLAND. January 23. Captain Willis telegraphed to Lloyd's agent from Mnngonni that the diver' 18. U. Harper) employed in the search for the Elingamite treasure died of neart failure yesierday, after making three descents siul recovering another £801). Harper, who was about f>o years of a«e. kept a hotel at Little Omaha. Two of hie sons were with him at the time, of his death. At. the inquest the evidence showed that death was due to syncope, and u verdict of accidental death was "cturneil, no blame being attaohnblo In iinyone. On tho third occasion of iiis going down he remained under the water for 3?. minutes, and just after coming to ilifi mtrfaeo ho collapsed.
