THE ROBBERY FROM THE NAVUA.
AN ARREST MADE.
SYDNEY, January 25. In October last, a thousand sovereigns were stolon from tho steamer Navua while, on a voyage to the Islands. Efforts to trace tho robber were futile until tho Government yesterday offered ;i stimulant in the shape of a hundred pounds reward and 10 per cent, of any money recovered. To-day tho police arrested a man who was formerly a doaman on the Navua on suspicion. Four hundred pounds wcl'o found among his possession*.
Tho money stolen from the Navua was placed in tho strongroom just before the vessel sailed from Sydney on October 16 on her Island cruise. This rubbery, following so fast on the lieels of the ono on board the steamer Indnnn, gave substance to tho idea that there was a gang working the Island boats. There was hardly any doubt about the fact that the theft on the Induna was committed while tho vcesel was at sea; neither does there seem to be in tho caso of Navua. It was thought possible that a, man knowing tho ropes loft Sydney by the Xoyua, and while between that port and Fiji managed to get the money.
