INVERCABGILL, January 14. A Southland Times representative has- interviewed lcadimr shopkeepers in regard to the otfeots of no-license on trade since its inception six months ago. Tho general opinion is that prohibition has made no difference, cither in cash trade, volume of business, or amount of bad debts. Most of -those interviewed are positive that iio-ljcenso has not injured trade, but they cannot detect any improvement directly duo to the new order of things.
■One tradesman (an ironmonger) stated that his cash trade had increased 33 1-3 per cent., a result, ho believed, of no-license. All tho others found practically no difference in their cash business. Probably a greater time mast elapse bofore shopkeepers can (.peak with any confidence. The opinion was'freely expressed that the Exhibition had led to some iiehlness of money.
