GOLF TOURNAMENT.
' (Fkow Our OffN Cobkksppndent.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 29. The annual championship golf tournament was commenced here to-day, when Canterbury and Otago played off their foursome and singles for trophies. For the Hanmer Shield (foursomes) Otago, with 7, defeated the local team, who scored 4. For the Campbell trophy (singles) Canterbury beat Otago by 6 to 2-.
The contest for the championship this •year promises to be unusually keen, as there arc several among those who have entered who arc .likely to give the present champion (Mr A. Duncan) a great "go" for the honour, provided they can maintain their club form in the champion contest.
