(Per United P-ress .Association.) WELLINGTON, August 31. In the case of Brown v. Toare, plaintiff gave evidence concerning his treatment by defendant in Wellington prison, which forms the basis of the claim for £2000 damages. He stated that the; pain caused:by the use of the electric battery Was intense, and that l)o was caused to suffer frightful agony by defendant applying a ml hot iron to his spine. He taid he was removed to an unventilated cell from the infirmary, and placed on a low diet, receiving little or no attention. He ;had asjeed for treatment by other medical men, but defendant'had refused this, and declared that he would continue to use the iron. Hie health had improved since his release, but he was still compelled to use sticks in order to walk. The case stands adjourned until to-morrow.
