ROXBURGH NOTES.
(Fkosi Oun Own'ConRMFoxDENT.)
ROXBURGH. July 31. One of the workmen (Mr Aitken) of the Jubilee had a narrow escape from drowning yesterday. He-was in the boat, loaded with coal, which was being pulled up the river by another of tho men. Suddenly the current wrenched the ropo from the hands of the latter, and tho boat was adrift. She struck one of the side linos'from the dredge, and the jerk threw Aitken out. Fortunately he managed to catch hold of the boat when he came, up and I clambered in, otherwise ho would have had a poor chance, as there are a number of eddies and a strong current at thenlace.
Mrs Little, mistress of the local school for over four years, who leaves to-morrow for Outram, was to-dny presented by tho chairman.of committee, .on bohalf of the children and parents, with a silver-mounted oak inkstand, a; lady's companion, a. silver thimble, and a silver pen and pencil case as tokens of tho esteem in which she is held locally. She has also been presented with a .new hymnary from' the teachers of the Presbyterian Sunday School.
