WAITATI INEBRIATES' HOME.

(From Our Owx Corresfondekt.)

WELLINGTON, July 31. Dr Triiby King has reported on the Waitali Homo for Inebriates. ' Of the two blocks of. buildings, the chief block ereetea about 25 years ago as a college, is used for male patients, the' eight-rodmed house near by is" used for females. Additions at a cost of £400 aro approaching completion, when there will be sufficient accommodation for the 10 female patients. The college buildings have suffered from neglect and dampness of site. Faulty drainage carried underneath instead of away from 'the building had led to a soakage of tho foundations and tho rotting of tho piles. The Home was being completed at a cost of £800, and would accommodate about 30 male patients. As the building now stands it could not be erected to £2000, and it has cost the Government, includine 857 acres of land, only £1450-immoly, £650, with' £300 for additions, repairs, and alterations. Roading and other works are economically carried on. Tho pipes for water supply havo been purchased at less than half cost from the Taranaki Petroleum Syndicate. For an expenditure of about £700 there will be a supply of several hundred thousand gallons of water per day, with a. head of 150 ft. This will provide enough power to light the place by electricity and drive machinery for washing, ■ wood-cutting, and general farm purposes. At Scactiff Asylum one-tenth of tho water sunolv has cost nearly 10 times this sum. The complete furnishing of the buildings, including pianos, wil) cost about £1000. 'Workmen from Seaeiiff Asylum have done valuable work about tho Home. There wero six resident male patients in tho Home on •luly 6, and one female patient in the women's homo, which was then on the verge of completion. Dr King writes in very complimentary terms of the rnnaaaer

(Mr Chapman]l and the matron (Miss Thorn«>n) M<, Bfirß Farrant, Harris, Newman, and Lordon, from Soacliff, had throughout rctl dercd excellent and willing service.
