THE AUCKLAND "UNIONISTS. (PBR UjiVTED 'PIVESB. ASSOOUTKW.) AUCKLAND, July 31. The Trades and Labour Council have resolved to hold an open-air meeting on Saturday night .to support tho State fire iimirauce proposal. They recommend the unions to run two labour candidates at the coming elections, aiid will ask tho Government to appoint a-labour' representative to one of the vacancies in the Upper House. It was resolved to forward to tho Eailway Employees' Union in San Francisco a letter ■congratulating them on the result of tho recent strike, and also a copy of tlie,Now Zealand labour laws. The Jotter states: T.he Conciliation and Arbitration Act has annihilated strikes in New Zealand, and no enactment iof the 22 promoted in tho interest? of labour is w much cherished by us. vVo commend it to our follow workmen in America as the Magna Oharta of labour."
