(Fi'.oii ,ouit Ow.v Correspondent.) OHRISTCHURCII, Juno 29. The rating- on the unimproved values poll takes placo to-morrow. Tho question is boiiig bitterly fought between the papers, tho Lyttelton Times and Star supporting the new systom, and the Press and Truth
apposing it. The last-named paper last night descended' to personalities, remarking "The case of tho Lyttelton Times constitutes about the strongest argument possible against the scheme. It is a joint stock company, well able to bear a tax upon iU capital value, yet under the new system. its
rate would be reduccd from £87 to £35 ss. Still, o( course, our contemporary is entirely disinterested in endeavouring to gel its own rate reduced and other people's increated." The poll is not likely to be carried.
