BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION TRUSTEES.

The weekly meeting of the Benevolent Institution Trustees, held as usual yesterday, was attended by Messrs C. Haynes (chairman), C. Allan, R. Wilson, P. Treseder, C. Ziele, and \V. Swan.

A letter was lecen'ed fioui the Secretary to the South Canterbury Charitable Aid Board enclosing a circular relating to the guardianship of children boarded out in private homes after they had attained the age ol 14 years.; '"he circular stated that the South Canterbury Board deemed it expedient that tho Charitable Aid Boards should have the same power of guardianship as managers of industrial schools, and desired the co-operation of the trustees in securing this extended control. They suggested that the trustees should request the members for the. city to support any. legislation that might be introdiiced in Parliament to give effect to the proposal.—Mr Haynes said that he thought it was a very proper application to make, and was ready to support it.—• After a short discussion, it was agreed to cooperate with the South Canterbury Board in the direction mentioned.

The Chairman mentioned that one of the inmates of the Old Men's Home had been guilty of pugnacious conduct towards a follow inmate, and had given an incorrect version of what had taken place io the Visiting Committee, —It was decided to stop some "extra' tobacco the delinquent wan in tho habit of receiving, and not to allow him out for three months.

Accounts amounting to £197 15s 9d worn passed for payment. The trustees then proceeded to deal with tho outdoor relief cases.
