Theft.—Thomas Blunden pleaded guilty to stealing a, screw-driver, valued Is 6d, the properly of John Engstrorn, a carpenter's square, valued 4s Gd, the property of Francis Andotson, and a .quantity of lead, valued 7s, belonging to John WiUon.—Sub-inspectoi Kieiy explained that accused was working- at a new building which was being erected for Mr J. H. Hosking. at Kaituna. On Friday last some of the workmen missed several of their tools; which were taken from a shed. The lead was subsequently sold to a Chinaman, and, curiously enough,- accused endeavoured to sell the tools to Mrs Engstrom, who kept :. a shop "in .Walker street. She identified the scr6w-driver as belonging to hsr husband.—Accused said, in explanation, that he was "under the influence," and that there was another man concerned in the theft, but he would take the onu3 of it all himself.— His Worship inflicted a fine of 20s in each case, with cbsts amounting to £1 6s, ordering payment at the rate of 10s per week.
Drunkenness. —James M'Kenzie was fined ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment.
