THE DEATH OF THOMAS BRACKEN.

TO THE KDITOH. Sir,—ln the death of Thomas Bracken this colony loses a man of many parts. Among his accomplishments he was a poet of no mean order; his letters from "Lambton Kay" bristle with quaint humour, catting earcasm, with a touch here and there of deep philosophy. He was of an open, generous nature, and of too noble a disposition to make of money a god, the result being that his widow and son are not too well provided for. Surely the genial Tom will not be forgotten by a wide circle of friends who would gladly do him honour; and what greater honour or kindness could be done him than to lighten the burden of those near anddear to him, left to battle with a not too sympathetic world. I would suggest that a book of his poems (photo attached) be printed and sold at, say, 5s a copy. To enable this to be don* Ist all who have kindly remembrance of him ser.d y mi 5s in advance, so that the poems can be printed. I enclose you sb, anticipating that you will take charge of such a fund. To bring this idea to a successful issue it is imperative that city friends push the matter. I will be pleased to co-operate with anyone in this direction, to whom you are at liberty to giva my name.—l am, &c, Paddy Muefh?. . Lawrence, February 19.
