THE HYDE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

TO THE EDITOE. Sic,—l see in your issue of the 15th a»: attack on Mr J. J. Ramsay by one " Talionis," who wishes him to explain his" action in endeavouring to get the Education Board to pass s vote of censure on the chairman of thd Hyde School Committee in connection with the late inquiry. I do net know whether Mr Ramaay _ will take the trouble to gratify "Talionis's" curiosity, but no doubt he can give good reasons for his actions. During the time that the chairman was temporary secretary he laid complaints before the board in reference to the teacher without the authority of the committee, and led the board to believe that the committee had authorised him to send them. The committee appointed by the board to investigate these charges found that they could not be substantiated, and.had the board passed a vote of censure on the chairman it would only have been what his actions merited. As to the teacher being a personal friend of Mr Ramsay's, 1 take from this that "Talionig" does not know, much about Hyde, and it is !l m?I^ a J? evice to lead the Public to believe that Mr Ramsay is. biassed, and shows that Tahomss" imsgination is very fertile. Ha concludes by saying " his action in the matter shows the liberty he would give committee* when his private interests are involved." Mr Ramsay's private interests are not involved, and his action shows that he would protect ths liberties of committees by refusing to allow chairmen to usurp their functions and put tha board to the exoense of a needless inquiry. The Rev. P. B. Eraser said to the chairman, when trying to defend his actions, that when tho board gets any communication of this sort from a secretary they look on it as being sent by the authority of the committee, aad if " Talionis" had been any, friend of the chairman, and' present at the inquiry, he wonld have let tbV matter drop as quietly as possible.—l »m, &c , Hyde, Feb. 19.
