REMOVAL OF DUST TINS.
TO THE EDITOB. ■■■ SiR,-^The notice re dust aud rubbish tins being no longer permitted to disgrace our footpaths cbtaes none too soon, irrespective of the uuforfcunate death of Pring, the hansom cab man. These tins have been an eyesore and disgusting nuisance to all pedestrians, and the wonder of visitors from civilised places, who have said, "What mauner of people inhabit this fair city to tolerate such unsightly and dis-agreeable-smelly adjuncts along the main thououghfares ? "—a most untidy sight at any time. ' ' Again, Sir, our dust carts as at present worked are a nuisance. I should think 20 per cent, of all the rubbish finds its way into the shops, dwellings, and lungs of our cicizens, destroying property, goods, health, and "tempers." Could not some sprinkler be devised to moisten the ashes, ko,\ and prevent their being disseminated, or close covers supplied such'c&cts with a hopper to receive the rubbish. ' Surely some improvement can be hit upon ia this respect, which has long bean a disgrace to the city. Under the new contract let us hope to see a aew.order of things and sharp supervision by the inspector. .. ; ■ ' Even should it cost a little more to enforce the rubbish tins being all removed not later than 8 o'clock every morning the corporation shouid not grudge ths extra cost. The footpaths in our main thoroughfares should be hosed and swept; every morning. To see about, half an inch of dust and blinding sand on every footpath iv the city is the rule, especially in side strestg. Ratepayers should enlist their representatives' services iv the council to improve present state of affairs.—l am, &a., . ■ ■ ■ ■ Lynx.
