WAIHEMO COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of Ibis County Council was held in thd County Council Chambers, l'almerston; on Saturday last; jlfr^vhich there were present—the Chairniau (Mi T. Aluir), and Crs1 Gl. Clarke,' J/Hartstonge/jUh , D. Kennedy, R. Matheson, I). Ross, J. Ross, and J. Stewart.

INSPECTOR'S REPORT. The Inspector reported having examined ;: the road leading 'up-to Bushy -Park referred to in Messrs M Keszie Bros.' letter at last meeting of nounca, to!iii*ke which'in the two era-ies necessary would require ;2:{,chains fonnatiou,.the last 11 being very heavy, an. \ to.give a grade of I in 8 would require a deep cutting and'- an cmbsuikmentof 9ft,; estimited cn«t £90, and gravelling £15,-total cost £105. -The report was received, and; them*tter wan referred to the chairman and the members of the ridins; to interview the proprietors of Bushy Park with a vi«w to obtaining a deviation. The Inspector also reported that the bridge on steels road across the river in the Green Valley Riding, under the supervision of the surfaceman, was nearly completed.—Received.

The Valuer-general, Wellington, forwarded copies of valuation rolls for the different ridings ot the county, and impressed upon the council the necessity of examining the rolls and furnishing any error* and omissions for correction, and thus enable the rolls to be eventually supplied ia a ii.-or« complete form, thu* saving the council and ihe department time.-Received ihe Chief Surveyor (Mr John Hay), Dunedin, forwarded plans and specifications for bridge over hhag Uiver at Dunback, and "inviting the council to make the necas-ary arrangements for calling for tjnders.and to have the work carried out. The Clerk Waifcouaiti County Council forwarded a coj.y nf their inspector's report re the erection of a bridge over the Neuthorn Creek near Haitatonges for the favourable consideration-of the council. It was also suggested that the bridge should be erected at the joint expense of the two counties — Waikouaiti to bear two-thirds and Waihemo one-third. — Received, and, on the motion of Or Hartstonge, seconded by Cr Clarke the proposal .was approved. The Valuer-general, Wellington, wrote drawing attention to section- 9 and 10 of •" The Government Valuation of Land Act, 1896," which provided that the general valuation roll under the act- should be the standard roll from which .the valuation rolls of all local authorities rating on the. capitfd value or on the unimproved value shall be framed ; that the Valuer general supply j.he valuation roll required at the request of each local authority, upon receiving aa accurate description of the boundaries of the rating district, ihc valuation rolls, however, wouM not be available fbr use in any case before the 3l»t March next, and probably somewhat later ; but in order that no unuscessary delay may occur he would be glad.to receive formal request for a valuation roll as soon as possible, should the council require one.—Received.

The Receiver of Gold Revenue, Naseby, forwarded detailed statement of goldfields revenue received at his office, and credited to the Wailiemo Uounty,- during.'the periods between November 13, Wi and, January 29, IS9B, amounting to £15 la». —Received.

Ihe Secretary, of the Land Boar.l, Dunedin, wrote with regard to thirds accrued from gnr.tiou ■i, block 11, Budle district, that the Land Board could not see their way to sanction the propnsed expenditure on the rjad on the eastern bounJary of tha said aectioo, the road being, the boaid understood, of no-use to the oelector from whose land the money was derived. The schedule would, therefore, be returned with the »llocation amended.—The action of the board was approved, on the motion of Or Kennedy, seconded by Gr Hartstonge, and it wag agreed to expend the money ou the road recommended. The Commissione!?. of Crown Lands, Dunedin, forwarded a return of all Crown lands transactions affecting the county during the month of January, ISHB. — Received. OTHHR JUTTERS. The inspector was instructed to obtain an interview with Mr J. Walsh with a view to getting his father's cou.ent to the proposed deviation through his property at Duiiback. Or H.vrtstongr moved, and Or Ctarke Seconded— "That tenders be palled l-y next meeting for metalling the Main road between Macraes and Hy,!e from thi continuation of the present metalled road, cost to be charged to the land fund ; also that tenders

be called for formation and metalling with sihi.?t rock portion of Nenthorn Main road, coit to be also chirged to the land reveuue."—Carried Ur Kennkdy called attention to the condition of the Couuty Chambers, which was not creditable, and was also dangerous.
