Th« ■ better -of the two will be chosen to represent the club in the Maiden Pours.. Owing .to the club not having a "best an'l besii" boa1; it will hot; be rfcprc' aented iv the Ch*mpiou. Fjurs. James Breeh and D. Wall will, however, probably take part in two of the double-scalliug events. The olab h*s been fortunate in securing the service* bf Mr A. Binnie «s st coach, and will thus now have the benefit of three able coaches. The new ooWectible double efcalling pair-oar boat built >y Nortoa, of Wellington, to the order of the Dunedin Amateur Boating Club arrived by the H&nroto. lasb week. It is a splendid specimen of the /boatbnilder's art; add in the subject of general admiration. A trial apiu has been Bade, and the b6at in every"way eitne up to expectations. It is understood that Mr Nur.'oti is arranging to have this boat placed in the exhibition immediately afver the regatta. . By the next Melbourne steamer the North End Club' e'xpscts to receive from Messrs Edward* and Sous, of Melbourne, a pair oar convertible double scatter (" best and beat "). The North Bad Club has recantly had its shed illuminated with g*s, which' is a. great convenience to frequautets of th"c dbM ih ther evening. ..■ -. :.'•:- The sami-fidal of the North End Cfub'S- Dr ! Closs Champion FoiiM wiis rowed ofE -id rough | water on the, 16th ilist., when Logan's crow met Breeu's crew, the ereiit resulting in the latter crew winning by less than a quarter of a lirigth. Logan on arriving near1 to the buoy found tbAt- if had dragged considerably, aud on entering the shed he entered a protest, which wa< upheld by the committee. The foliowiiif» crews have been drawn to row in the D A.B.C. Trial Pairs.for the " Red and Black" Challsag6 Cap, which take* place about the end of tbe month: R. Cavaoagh (stroke), A. The enthusiasm; with which the O.R.C. members inaugurated the present season has by no means subsided, : &s the activity of the crews now training for the Jubilee regatta fully shows. All the selected crews have commenced traiiiirig, and one or two.have been working hard for two or three Weeks past. Priest and Maxwell in,pir, ticutar, who have'beeu selected to coaipfete in the Senior Pairs, are displaying rsinarkable assiduity in their training, and are already showing v«fy good form. Both, however, are too eager,'.and inclined to roughen thfeir style by ,too miichdash-r-in a word they are sacriflciDg-fbrni to plugging. Macleai and Fenwick', who hnvp beeu training for the lsst fortnight for the Maiden Pairs, err somewhat on the other side. ,Tn6y are* however," going very steidily', and if stroka would show more dash in' "the WaCer^ add bow lose himself of his habit of hanging at the end of his stroke,' the pair should stand a • good chance in the regatta. The Seniorl and Maiden Pairs will be combined to row far the tidies' Plate Rice. The crew for' tbe Junior Pairs consists of Martin and Munro. They hive as yet had-but very little work, and show _ao combination-, but when' time has remedied this there- should be nothing to find: fanlfc: with in the crow, as both are tried oarsmen. The same remarks apply to Reid and StaShsm,. whom' the Selection Committee have .cboßen;to oompetefor'the'Double Sculls, -i
The following crews of the Wellington Row-, iiiit Club bare heen selected to train for the W*ngitiini regitta, tibe. held next month, and also for the championship,' to be held at Dunedin .on.tUfl 25th prox. :—Senior Fours—Sarfsesnt (*troke), Cnlnan, Maudesley, Spencer; Senior Pairs—Sargeant, Cilnan; Senior Double Sculls—Sppincer, Maudealey; Senior ScullsSpencer.: In the event of the crews baing nnsuccessful.in Waoganui it ii unlikely that they will journey aouth. . - •

Carter, however, ig unable to obtain leave of absence, so the arrangement hast fallen through, and the club will.not be represented at the' regatta; ' : The OrRg6R.O. have selected the following crews to row for tha Ladies' Challenge Cup :— P. Maclean (stroke), G. Fonwick, B. T. Non-is, Tewsley ; IS. Woodwurd (stroke). J. S. Tennant, G. M'Lsod, H. C. Russell. The Southland Times says that the representatives of the Quaen'o Drive Club (Danedin) well m&iataiaed their reputations at the Invercftrgill regatta, and ouS of the three events in which they participated . two well-deserved and rather easy, victories were scored. Of course tUe Champion Fours was annexed by them, as was also the Senior D >üble Ssulls. Undoubtedly the closest and most exciting race of the day was the Senior Outrigged Pairs, in which, although the Dunedin champions sturted firm favourites, the lavercargill men succeeded in passing the wiunioK post about three yards iv front oE their redoubtable opponents. A meeting of the Championship Regatta Committee was held at Port Con'niws on Wednesday evening, and attsnded by Mr J White (in the chair), and Messrs J. "jnrnes L R Wilson, W. J. Wilson, T. ftlackay, J. Connori C. Butter worth, J. D. Mill*, A. M'K>noon W M X W: L:, H*>P«.:.n.i »• B HaM: MrMarter, secretary of the N Z.A..R.A , wrote giving final approval of the programme, and drawing special attention to the rules under which the regatta is to be held. Mr John Batter of lovercargili, sent word that he accepted th« position of judge. It was reported that all arrangements for the regatta were in a forward state.
