THE ST. KILDA SHOOTING AFFRAY.
MERCER BEFORE THE COURT.
Samuel Mercer was brought before Mr F. H. Moriee, S.V , yesterday morning at the sitting of the City Police Court, and charged with having on the 29th inst., at St. Kilda, unlawfully shot one Edward Brown with inteut to kill.
Mr A. C. Hanlon appeared for accused, who bore marks of having been assaulted on his S-rgeant O'Neill said in this case Mr Brown was confined to his house, and under the circumstances he (the eergeant) asked for a remand for a week... ' " '■ Mr Hanlon : I consent to that. . Mr Morice : What condition is Mr Brown in? Sergeant O'Neill: AVeakly ; but he is not in a dsbsernus state.. - ■ ■ Mr Hanlon : Then I ask for bail. Mr Morice (to Sergeant O'Neill): What do you say to that ? , Sergeant O'Neill: Of course it is optional witn, the bencb. Mr Morice : What do the police say ? Sergeant O'Neill : We have no objection. Mr Morice : Mr Mercer is a well-known resident here. The case is remanded to the oth January, aud bail will be allowed, hiuisslf in £100, and two sureties of .£SO each. Accused was shortly after the rising ot the court liberated, the necessary sureties being forthcoming. - M
