Drunkenness.—Beyit Woods, against whom there were, mx previous convictions, and who was lait up in 1594, was convicted and discharged. ]n the case of Mary Byrne Sergeant O'Neill said the accused-had been before the-court the previous morning, and the case was then remanded to »ive her an opportunity of goiug to the home in Christchurch. She was to see Mr Torrance, the gaol chaplain, but that gentleman \va< absent in the country. Accused had been 24 hours in gaol, and the police did not now want to press for n further adjournment, but asked that she be allowed to go in the meantime.—l he Beuch told accused that she had to thank the police for their leniency, and convicted and discharged her.—Accused: I don'c think I will trounle you again, sir.: . Absent Without Le^ve.—Patrick Connarty was charged with absenting himself from the barque Cornuvia without leave on the 29th inst. -Sergeant O'Neill said accused had been drinking and had absented himself from his vessel for a couple of days. He was met by the captain the previous afternoon, and given into the custody ol the police. The captain did not wish to press the charge as the accused had consented to go on board his vessel —Discharged with a caution.. Theft.—Henry Gibson, 10 years of age, was charged with having stolen 8s belonging to Jane Todd.- Sergeant O'Neill mentioned that the case had been remanded fora week by Mr Care w, S.M., to give the father of, the boy an opportunity ot clustising him.
