PRESENTATIONS.
The principal underwriters of Dunediu assembled at the Underwriters' Association rooms last evening, when, on behalf of the members, Mr Brindfey, the chairman, presented Mr W. Caniogham Smith with a massive silver salver, suitably inscribed, and a silver hot water kettle and stand. In making the presentation, Mr Brindley reforred to tiwir guest's many good qualities as a citizen and au underwriter, and said that he had been at nil times prepared to render any services be could to the association. They all regretted Mr Smith's departure, »ud it had been thought he should carry with him sotno memento of his underwriting friends in Dunedin. Mr Cuningham Smith replied in feeling term?, and on behalf of Mra Smish thanked them heartily for their handsome present. The health "of Mr and Mrs Smith was then drunk with musical honours end amid expressions of regret at his departure. The health of tbe chairman was proposed in a neat speech by Mr Mallard and happily responded to. .. At the High street School yesterday Miss Nimmo, who is retiring from the service, was presented by Mr Smith, the head master, on behalf of the staff, with a handsome frnitstantl, and in doing bo expressed regret at tbe lo»s of her services to the school. Mias Nimmo returned thanks in a neat little speech. The pupils of Miss Nimmo's class also gave her a number of presents before her departure.
