ENTERTAINMENTS.

The North Dunedin Rifles gave the first of a eeiies of winter entertainments at the North Dunedin Drillshed last evening. Captain Myers was in the chair, and there was a largfl attendance. The programme was a most attractive one, embracing vocal and instrumental iteme of a varied order, all of which were contributed in a manner that evoked hearty applause, whilst Eome were so much appreciated that encores were insisted upon. Songs were rendered by Misses Douglas, Cameron, Blaney, Sch'.ote!, Messrs C. Brookes, G. Dallas, G. Peake, and S. S. Myers. Miss Nina Schlotel contributed a violin solo, Mr J. H. Brown a pianoforte solo, and Mr T. Chapman a cornet solo, while Mr G. Dickie entertained the audience with his ventriloquial entertainment. During the interval Mr Brown, who also played the accompaniments, contributed, his pretty "Xarakoi" waltz. At thfi termination of the concert, a very enjoyable danca was held. Over 40 coup'.ea occupied the floor, and the duties of M.C's. were satisfactorily discharged by Sergeant Shepherd and Volunteer Boss.

An entertainment was given in Sc. Peter's Hall, Caversham, on Thursday night to a largo audience. Piano eolos were given by Mrs Palmer and Miss Bpraggon. Mr Brigga wi! encored for bis cornet solo. Messrs Hunter and Houghton received a similar compliment for an excellent rendering of the duob ''Excelsior." Two quartets " Whore art tbou, beam of light" and " Sleep, gentle lady " (encored) were pleasingly rendered by Misses Norman and M. Home and Messrs Favell and Smith, and a glee, "The Miners," by the Glc-e Club. Songs were also given by Misjes Home and Jarvis, Messrs Houghton, Hunter, aid Smith. The entertainment cor.clncjed with an amusing dramatic sketch "Tbe Lost Undo." Mrs Palmer acted as accompanists.
