MINING SUMMARY.
Since last summary, returns have been received of four weeks' dredging by the Sew Hoy
Big Beach Gold Mining Company (Limited). The first week's return was 80oz 4dwt, the second week's 970z lOdwt, the third week's 121oz, and the fourth week's 131oz 13dwt 18gr retorted gold. The secretary of the Six-mile Beach Dredging Company (Limited) reported for the week, ending 24th ult., 48oz 6dwt amalgam <for 68 hours' actual dredging. The report for the following week was 60oz amalgam for 114£ hours' actual dredging, and for the week ending the 9th "inst. 460z lldwt amalgam for 107 hours' actual dredging. The Amalgamated Waipori Deep Lead Gold Mining Company, Limited, washed up on the 27th ult., after a 16 days' run, for 520z 3dwt of gold. A subsequent washing up, after 12 days' work, resulted in 440z B&\vt being obtained. The Upper Waipori Alluvial Gold Dredging Company, Limited, working with two dredges, have received the following results, as revealed by three weeks' returns : —From No. 1 dredge, 16oz sdwt 6gr for 5 days 3 hours, 15oz 14dwt for 5 days 9 hours, and 4oz 18dwts for 3 days 1G hours ; from No. 2 dredge, 15oz 4dwt for 4 days 9 hours, 250z 18d\vt for 5 days 7 hours, and 270z sdwt 12gr for 5 days 6 hours. The Sandhills Gold Mining Company (Limited) reported 16oz Odwt 13gr, 12oz lldwt 2gr, and 30oz respectively for three weeks' returns. The United Hercules Hydraulic Sluicing Company (Limited) washed up at the beginning of the present mouth, and secured 20oz sdwt, valued at L 77 19s 3d, for six days' running, and again on the 12th inst., when 60oz 7dwt, of the value of L 237 7s, were obtained as the result of
nine days' running. ' The operations of the Roxburgh Amalgamated Mining and Sluicing Company have been interfered with owing to irregularity in the supply of water. The manager washed up in the last week of February, when the yield was 88oz lldwt 15gr, of the value'of L 341. The Miller's Creek Gold Dredging Company have secured .the following returns : —lloz ldwt, for 92 hours' ; 16oz 4d\vt 12gr, for 104 hours' ; and 21oz for 194 .hours' dredging. The Waipapa Dredging Company secured 26uz 16dwt amalgam for two days' dredging for the week ending March 3, and 70oz lOdwt for the following week's work. On March 2 the manager banked gold (550z Odwt 3gr) to the value of L 214 10s sd, for niue days' dredging. The Jutland Flat (Waipori) Gold Mining Company (Limited) secured for the week ending 27th February, 330z 7d\vt gold ; for the week ending the sth inst., 320z 2dwt; and for the week ending 12th inst., 290z sdwt gold. The Cromwell Gold Company (Limited) completed a crushing of 150 tons stone on the 23rd ult., and obtained 1450z of gold. The battery continues at work on ore from the 150 ft level.
C. Remnant and party after a tramp of 12 hours have returned to Motueka from a visit to the River Crow, a tributary oi' the Karamea, beyond the Baton, and showed the gold they had obtained, including a piece of 9oz 7dwfc. They complained of want of tracks, stating they had to tramp over snow ranges, each man carrying 801b. Gold has previously been found in the Grow, but the inaccessibility of the country has prevented operations. The battery retnrns at Reefton for the week ending February 28 were:—Fiery Cross, 3030z amalgam from 81 tons (top plates); Globe, 9310z amalgam from 190 tons (clean up); Gallant, 620z amalgam from 130 tons ; Keep-it-Dark, llloz amalgam from 62 tons; Welcome, 81oz amalgam from 22 tons. For the following week the returns were :—Big River, 210oz retorted gold from 14-0 tons stone; Globe, 2700z amalgam from 180 tous; "Welcome, 560z amalgam from 18 tons (top blankets only); Progress, 1570z 4dwt retorted gold from 244- tons ; Cumberland, 2140z amalgam from 85 tons ; No. 2 South Keep-it-Dark, 103oz amalgam from 66 tons; Gallant, 670z for the week; Keep-it-Dark, 520z amalgam from 54 tons. The returns for the week ending March 13 were :_ Alpine, 3520z amalgam from 362 tons ; Alexander dredge, 230z of gold for seven days and 4oz 15dwt amalgam for five days; Cumberr land, 2550z amalgam from 65 tons; Gallant, 1430z amalgam (clean up) ; Keep-it-Dark, 570z amalgam from 60 toas; No. 2 Dark, 1220z amalgam from 90 tons; Globe, 3220z amalgam from 190 tons ; Welcome, 590z amalgam from 19 tons. For last week the following returns are reported :—United Alpine, 208oz amalgam from 210 tons; Keep-it-Dark, 50oz amalgam from 56 tons; Fiery Cross, 1360z amalgam from 65 tons; Cumberland, 2620z amalgam from 90 tons ; Progress, 218oz amalgam from 150 tons; Globe, 2840z amalgam from 185 tons ; No. 2 Dark, 115oz amalgam from 80 tons.
