MINING.

The secretary of the Jutland Flat (Waipori) Gold Mining Company (Limited) reports that the dredge resumed work at 2 a.m. on Monday, and is reported by the manager as working well.

The manager of the Roxburgh Amalgamated Company reports having washed down for No. 1 line of boxes on the 30th ult., and obtained 330z 13dwt of gold, and explains " that at times the washings up may not be very large, and the quantity must not always be put down to the quality of the ground, for when working a large paddock the gold naturally settles to the bottom, and unless a part of the bottom is cleaned into the elevator before a washing \ip the return cannot be as large as it would be if such were done; and it is not always an advantage to clean up a piece of bottom until the paddock is nearly finished, for it only gets covered over again with washdirt, necessitating a second cleaning. I have a new line of boxes with elevator completed in No. 2 ready for starting." He has been using, and will continue to use, the water in No. 2 paddock for a few iiays longer for stripping the top dirt, so as to provide for working both elevators continuously.

The Upper Waipori Alluvial Gold Dredging Company (Limited) obtained ltioz 12dwt lSgr for five days six hours' dredging last week.

The Punstan Times states that there is quite a rush out in the neighbourhood of Snringvale.
