PRESBYTERIAN SYNOD.

(Per United Press Association.; Wellington, February 17. A deputation from the Early Closing Association waited on tho Presbyterian Assembly to-day, when the following motion was passed: — " That thiß assembly receive the memorial presented by the Early Closing Association and request tho moderator to convey to the deputation an expression of the pleasure they have had iv receiving them, record its hearty sympathy with tbe object of the association, and in the iuterests of religion and humanity would call upon its ministers and office-bearers to use all their influence to secure the objects aimed at by the association." Sinauel Wilson, the newly-appointed missionary, a licentiate of tho United Presbyterian Church, would shortlyarrive in the colony. The committee pointed out that the appointment, of a new missionary would make the permanent liability of tho mission at least £450 per annum. It was also mentioned that a member of the nhurch, who has been preparing himself by an Hxtensive course of stuiy iv arts, medicine, and divinity, was prepared on completion of his collegiate course to offer himself for mission worK in the New Hebrides. Tha committee recommended the formation of. a missionary association in connection with ench congrt'gatiou. The report was adopted, arid it whs directed that tbe presbytery of Christcuurch should ordain the Rev. J. Wilson o.i his arrival. It wus nrrauged that the next general assembly should bo helii ou the second Tuesday in February 1891, in St. Andrew's Church, Christchurch. The assembly brought its sittings to a close to-nigbt.
