Wednesday, November 17. (Before Messrs J. Elmer, J. S. Sprent, and Hi« " Worship the Mayor.) Drunkenness.—Six charges of drunkenness were dealt with.—John Day, who pleaded guilty to having been drunk on the Portobello road while iv charge of a horse and cart, and for whom Mr Milne appeared, was fined 40s; in default, one week's imprisonment. Steay Cattle.—Mrs Campbell, for allowing two head of cattle to be at large at Sunnydale, North-East Valley, was fined ss, without costs. Unregistered Don.—An information against Robert Brunton, for having aa unregistered dog in his possession, was withdrawn, the dog baring been destroyed. Pbohibition Order.—Morris Edward Earton was summoned to show cause why a prohibition order should not issue against him. The defendant did not appear, and the pfosecutrix (Mrs Barton) asked that the -case might stand over for a fortnight, to give her husbaud an opportunity of mending his ways.—Adjourned accordingly. :. . Labcenx from the Person.—John Atkinson was charged with stealing the sum of £2 from John Attiwell on the 10th inst.—Mr D. M; Stuart appeared for the prisoner, who pleaded Not guilty.—The evidence showed that prosecutor aud his mate, Jas. Patterson, came into town on Monday night from the Beaumont, where they bad just completed a small contract. Prosecutor was spending the proceeds of his job in drink yesterday, when he was joined by the prisoner, who represented himself as a bullock-driver from Southland, The two men were alone together in Wain's Hotel, Manse street, and prosecutor some time after missed two votes, on the Bank of New South Wales. Prisoner was arrested by Detective Henderson and searched, and two similar notes found in his p'ossetsioD, though a short time previously he"had no money.—This not being his first offence, he was sentenced to thiee months' imprisonment,—■ On a further charge of vagrancy he was convicted and sentenced to three mouths'imprisonment, the sentences to run concurrently.
