POET CHALMERS BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Port Chalmers Borough Council met on Monday evening. Present—His Worship the Mayor (Mr A. G. Allen), Councillors Watson, Gardner,M'Keniie, Perry, Schumacher, Bead, De Maus, Putnam, Cook, Pullar. COBRESPONPBNCB. Mr W. Elder wrote tendering his resignation as a member of the Dock Trust.—Accepted. Mr F. Middleton wrote requesting to be allowed to surrender his lease of section 139.—' Referred to the Keserves Committee.

Messrs Littlejohn and Sons, of Wellington, wrote requesting payment of the balance due on the town clock.—Referred to Finance Committee. . • The Under-secretary for Crown Lands wrote acknowledging receipt of a petition to his Excel lency the Governor re Mr Massey's lease. REPORTS. The Finance Committee .recommended payment of accounts amounting to £92 3s Id.— Adopted. The Works Committee reported that the Quarry Company had offered a supply of metal at a cheap rate. That the inspector of works advised that the road from Wickliffie terrace to Sawyers' Bay be metalled with metal from the company's quarry, this portion of the road being practically useless in wet weather. They furtherrecommended that the Quarry Company's offer be accepted, and that the crossings at Mr Kirkwood's property in Beach street and Mr Kettle's store be relaid.—Adopted. TheFira Brigade Committee having waited on the District High School Committee in reference to a bell for the fire brigade, had been promised by the school committee that they would hand their bell over in the event of their procuring another. This they had done, and were desirous of having their new bell erected in the tower of the school. The inspector of works estimated the cost of bo doing at £2.—lt was resolved the offer of the school committee be accepted with thanks. GENEBAL. Crs Cook and Watson were appointed to represent the council at the forthcoming election of members of the Charitable Aid Board.

Councillor Watson waR elected a member of the Dock Trust vice Mr Elder.
